Our History

We began in 2002 as HigherSchool Publishing when we created The Parent's Guide to Better Grades, 7 Steps to Improve Your Child's Academic Performance. This instructional guide has successfully helped thousands of parents improve their children's study habits, organizational skills, and academic performance. It was written at a 6th grade reading level for English and Spanish speaking parents of inner-city public school students. Over 50,000 copies of The Parent's Guide have been sold to schools and school districts as a resource for parental involvement workshops.

In 2004, HigherSchool Tutoring was formed to provide Supplemental Educational Services (SES), under The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), to students attending underperforming Title I schools. We help students build a strong foundation in basic skills and we provide them with the tools needed to perform on grade level. Students receive a blended program of instruction that uses data from formative and summative assessments to assign individualized online lessons, which are reinforced by small group instruction led by our highly trained instructors. During 2012, the last year of SES implementation, HigherSchool provided tutoring or instruction to students in more than 50 Title I schools in Maryland and the District of Columbia.

In 2009, HigherSchool Instructional Services began providing supplemental instruction to Title I students in non-public schools. We currently work with Title I students in Grades Pre-K through 12, during and after school, who attend religious schools in New York City. Through the successful implementation of our program HigherSchool has become the second largest provider of instructional services to Title I non-public school students in New York City.

In addition to instructional services, we provide coaching and professional development workshops to nonpublic school teachers and principals. We also administer parental involvement workshops and mental health counseling to students in need of support.
